PROJECT ACCESSIBLE ART
Bringing the Power of Art
to Children with Diverse Abilities

Art is powerful. The Sistine Chapel, the Mona Lisa, and the Great Pyramids. They have all transcended time and left lasting impressions on humanity. The works of influential artists throughout history have inspired movements of peace and cultural growth. While recognized art has brought indisputable benefits to society, it is important for us to recognize that
the true and deep power of art lives inside all of us.
We are all artists. For the past three years, I have supported children with special needs with art projects and have witnessed the power and confidence that creating art brings to these beautiful souls. I've seen how art offers a form of expression for children who don’t easily communicate in traditional verbal or written ways. When a child who struggles with traditional forms of expression is offered an opportunity to voice their personality through artistic expression, it builds self-confidence and independence and brings out strengths that otherwise may be hindered by social norms.
The benefits of creative expression are abundant. When we create art we enter a space for self-expression and creativity. Creating art fosters independence and improves mental health. It provides an emotional outlet and nourishes a sense of empowerment. Can you imagine how grounded society would be if everyone had access to creating art?
Project Accessible Art's goal is to make the benefits of art accessible to everyone. I have been especially moved by the joy, pride, and confidence I have witnessed in children with diverse abilitites when they are given the opportunity to create art freely. I am passionate about making art accessible to as many people as possible and hope this forum will help spread awareness and offer resources to parents, educators, and advocates. Please use this blog to find project ideas, inspiring profiles of artists with unique abilities, and book recommendations.
